![]() Also, VOIP apps provide us with a "second line" if we need one I for one, have no desire to mingle my VOIP number(s) with my carrier number. This is essentially the reason why we're willing to put up with VOIP apps - for the cost savings. Contrary to Google's belief, most people use Google Voice to avoid using carrier minutes. But instead, by almost making this a requirement, they have shot themselves in the foot and rendered the app unsuited for purpose. A simple "call forwarding" feature would do. The basic problem with Google Voice (in my opinion), is that they have placed an emphasis on "linking" the Google Voice number to a carrier number. I now have Google Voice ringing for incoming calls on both phones - well, whichever one I happened to have turned on at the time. There are slight differences in the way the settings are laid out but the concept is the same. Make sure that above that, on the same screen, under "Incoming Call", you have "Show Notifications" turned ON and that "Default" is selected and not "Silent". I selected Google "Voice" / notifications / incoming call / advanced / sound - once you tap on "sound", you're shown the various ringtones on your device and are then able to select one and assign it to Google Voice. GV just wasn't ringing - at all! What finally made the difference for me is when I went into the Android settings where all the Applications are listed. The "missed call" notifications were sounding loud and clear. ![]() If I wanted to incur charges, why wouldn't I just use my carrier's minutes to start with? Why would I use Google Voice at all? I'm afraid that if I switch to 'use carrier', that Google Voice will use my PayGo minutes! That would be counter-productive. Then later on, I got a SIM card with some Pay-as-you-Go minutes as back-up. For a while, I did not have a SIM card in the phone and was simply using it to make and receive calls over wifi. I DO have 'use wifi and data for calls' turned on.
